Ownership:

Dallas Day is a third generation hardwood lumberman with over 40 years of hardwood lumber, flooring, stair parts and millwork experience. His business partner, Rick Lublin, has over 20 years of floor installation and refinishing experience.

"We work together on larger jobs, but often work separately on smaller jobs. We have no employees. This allows us to focus on the job we are doing rather than on employees."

Competitiveness:

We strive to give all customers the benefit of the best that exists, in method, equipment, and finishes. We use top equipment, use the best finishes, and go through all the required steps to provide each floor with the best results achievable. We typically exceed expectations, and count on receiving referrals based on results.

In refinishing work you should get what you pay for. We know there are no "good shortcuts" in this work, and are competitive for the results we deliver. We provide written specifications for all of the finishing products we use. You need to understand, as a consumer, that all finishes are not equal. Finish costs can range from $30 to $100 per gallon, and the price reflects real differences in performance over time. You need a minimum of three coats of finish -- period. Many bidders use only two coats. Two coats of what? Do the research, and consider the advantage of a fourth coat of finish in very high traffic areas.
In most cases, we add value in excess of the cost of the work performed, in terms of personal satisfaction, appraisal and re-sale value.

Attention to Detail:

Almost all of our work is confined to residential remodeling, where experience, complete understanding of the home owner's objectives, patience and attention to detail are critical. We are a small company intent on remaining small on purpose. When you hire us, you are working with the owners of the company. We want to leave you completely satisfied with the job, and provide both maintenance kits and protective felt pads to apply to your furniture before putting the floors back to use.

Scheduling:

We prefer to schedule in advance, and then work from start to finish on each job. You will not experience starting and stopping, new personnel, and other interruptions to the schedule we establish with you. We do our very best to hold to schedules, knowing that floor finishing is usually one of the last items to be completed on remodeling projects, and everyone is anxious to finally bring an end to their remodeling project.

Sanding Equipment:

We own only the latest model equipment, and constantly purchase new equipment that offers features that improve performance and productivity. There are many companies using equipment that is 25 years and older. There is no comparison between new equipment and the older equipment that still survives. The difference can be seen on the finished floor.

Dust Containment:

We only use "dustless" sanding systems. Each piece of sanding equipment is hooked up to a vacuum hose, and all dust waste goes to a sealed container outside the building. Dust containment is our most valuable tool for protecting health and property. Wood Dust is a known carcinogen. We don't want to breathe it, and we don't want to leave it behind for you to deal with. A sander that uses a dust bag is not "dustless". Connecting a sander to a "shop vac" is not "dustless". Going Dustless is a matter of using sophisticated equipment and having a mental framework that is in tune with preventing wood dust from getting atomized.

Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs):

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) considers indoor air quality as one of the top five environmental threats to human health. The traditional sanding and finishing process uses solvent-based products. Some of these products are so toxic that applicators cannot use them without respirators, and Home owners need to leave the dwelling for days to "air out" the VOCs. This is totally unnecessary given the excellent water-borne finishes available today. High quality finishes cost more, but are worth it, in terms of human health. It is only a question of time before all high VOC finishes are outlawed for use. The finishes we use offer among the lowest level of VOCs in the industry.

The Greenguard Environmental Institute (GEI) is an industry independent non-profit organization whose goal is to improve public health and quality of life by helping manufacturers build better and safer results. Convenience/Inconvenience Factors:

We work from 8A to 4P daily. During the working day, there is lots of noise, etc., but we try to apply coatings early enough in the day so they are dry to walk on in the evenings. Depending on the job, there may be one night when Mom gets the night off, and going to a restaurant may be a good thing to do. Very seldom have we had any complaints about odors or inconvenience, but some customers prefer to be gone while the entire project is being done, and if that is your choice, we'll schedule when you plan to be gone.
